The building that contains the Tipografia do Conto “Arts, Books & Residence” was built at the beginning of the 20th century to house small industrial activities, typical of the bourgeois center of the city, such as a Typography and a Graphic Arts Workshop, however deactivated. The rehabilitation project, which transformed it into a charming hotel, evokes this former “workshop” condition, maintaining, for this purpose, the main stone façade, in Deco style, the central patio for lighting and ventilation, and the internal spatial flexibility, especially at ground floor level.
The ceilings of this hotel, in raw concrete, pay homage to this typographic memory, featuring texts in low relief, where it is possible to read passages, excerpts or fragments by various authors, of national and international reference, linked to architecture, design, research and architecture. art curation.

The Tale Retells

The Hotel has ten rooms and an extensive ground floor, with multipurpose areas, complemented by the central courtyard, rear garden and respective swimming pool. Adjacent to these, there is a large support bar for residents – Hífen –, which also serves as a space for exhibitions, concerts and other cultural activities.
Hotel Tipografia do Conto, awarded the 2020 National Prize for Urban Rehabilitation (Tourism area) follows the same principles as House of Tales, the first project of this hotel promoter, whose work received the Honorable Mention of the João de Almada Prize 2012, aimed at award the best examples of heritage rehabilitation in the municipality of Porto. Both projects were created by the Pedra Líquida studio.
Like House of Tales, Typography of Tales seeks to contradict the usual hotel offer in the city, which is increasingly generic and impersonal, recreating local traces of existing typography, and thus reactivating the city's memory.
